Good morning!

One unexperienced writer wonders how to bring out the character's soul and personality... For some, it's easier to produce an environment, but the place means nothing if you can't portray a meaningful character in which you can relate to in -some- sort of way.

I have one that I play on World of Warcraft, on an RP server.  His name is Kathias, and granted he is fully animated, in tune with his surroundings, even caught up in several stories, he doesn't seem to have a personality of his own, even though he's had months upon months to develop.

This is just a brief dump of some of the ideas I've had for stories lately--

* A man who loses his wife, and spends each night in the bathtub, relaxing, thinking.  He begins to notice a mildew spot on the ceiling as it begins to grow larger and larger, the pattern spreading out further, until he begins to see a dark, green flicker in the middle.. Who knows what could be on the other side?

*  A young slacker who goes through life, his mind stuck in fantasies and action packed ideas through the games he plays.  His bills and his relationships further falling into the hole, until one night his illusions of super hero antics catch up to him when he and his girlfriend are held up at gunpoint.

*  A young woman who finds work at a local restaurant, to getting comfortable with the fellow employees.  She slowly begins to unravel an underground BDSM club that lies beneath the calm, happy smiling faces of the employees.  What could lie under the club that could be so sinister to encourage killing and death?

*  A group of college students who decide to stop into an old hotel that is notorious for being haunted.  They feel an ominous presence as they head towards their room, walking past one in particular.  The protagonist opens the door that is barely creaked open, to find the room completely destroyed.  He shuts the door, walking back into the hallway.  His temptation is too strong to stay out of the room, and aside from his friends screaming advice, he does so again, coming face to face with a horrid looking little girl sitting on the bed, and comes face to face with his terrifying future.

All of the above are just a few ideas, I'm open to opinions, please!
